Tales from Cottingley

Or should I say 'Return to Cottingley' cause that's what I did!!
This was a very exciting visit for me as it is something I had always dreamed of doing, retracing the steps of the two girls Francis Griffiths and Elsie Wright ,who photographed fairies at the bottom of the garden, at the beck and in Cottingley woods, way back in 1917. Well I went there in 2005 and took my own photographs.. Well what can I say, I think they speak for themselves.

Our Fairy

We have a little fairy
As quiet as a mouse
But don't be fooled
She makes a lot of
Mischief round the house.
We always see her footprints
In the butter on our bread.
And all the toys and pillows get
Tossed about the bed.

When the socks go missing
And you need to find a pair.
You'll find them all unravelled
And stuffed behind a chair.
Out in the flower beds
Oh such havoc has been played
And sausages are planted
Where blooms were once displayed.

Up in the attic where
Everything is stored
She often goes a wondering
To stop her getting bored.
She'll rummage through the cases
And pinch the dolly's clothes.
Then wear them after midnight
When she thinks that no one knows.

But when the day is over
And the children are asleep
She'll come up to the nursery
To take a tiny peep.
Although they cannot see her
She sprinkles them with gleams
And wraps them up securely in
Her web of golden dreams.
